Welcome

In 1997, Craig S. Young developed the REI (Repertoire Evaluation Instrument) to evaluate the quality of the existing Wind Band Repertoire as part of his Ph.D. dissertation at The Ohio State University (Click here to read an abstract). Utilizing lists by prominent conductors, an adjudication panel, and significant research, including studies by Ostling (1979) and Gilbert (1993), the study identified 530 compositions that were deemed to contain a significant level of quality (Click here to read more about the development of this list).

Now that it’s 10 years later, it is time to update this list. And you are invited to help! Or, if you would rather not evaluate the repertoire on your own, you may just look at the results of the list and maybe make comments about your favorite (or least favorite) pieces. Either way, click one of the options on the left, proceed through the simple registration process, and come join us!
